About Us

My name is Tahar Oukafi. I was born and raised in the southern Algerian oasis of Djanet. I am a Tuareg of the Kel Ajjer people and have been living in Bern (Switzerland) for several months each year since 2014.

 

It is my passion to show people the beauty and cultural richness of my homeland. I am particularly knowledgeable about the sites and historical context of the rock paintings. I learned the trade from my father, who was also a tour guide. For many years, I worked as a licensed organizer and certified tour guide for various travel companies in the Djanet and Tamanrasset area. 

 

During my two years of military service with the border guards, I mostly traveled with camels and lived with nomads, with whom I still maintain good contacts today.

 

My strength lies in tailoring tours to individual needs in small groups of one to ten people. For many years, I worked as the managing director of the licensed travel agency Imaran in Djanet; I am now the owner of the Tafalelet travel agency. I work with a well-established team of local staff. Thanks to our experience, friendliness, and knowledge, we provide you with a personal connection to the diverse aspects of life in the Sahara. I speak Tamashek, Arabic, French, and a little German.
