The Adrar Mountains with off-road vehicles and riding camels

15 days, one to ten people

 

Day 1: Departure from the airport near your place of residence. Arrival in Algiers and transit for a flight to Djanet. Arrival in Djanet shortly before midnight. Welcome by Tahar and his team with their off-road vehicles and transfer to the bivouac.

 

Day 2: After breakfast, drive in off-road vehicles via Zaouatallaz to the Dider plateau, where you will visit the beautiful Tin Taghert rock slab engraved with animals and people. Overnight stay in Dider.

 

Day 3: The off-road vehicles take you to the point where you descend into the Idaren Valley. Four-hour hike along the still flowing stream, past several abandoned dwellings, to the Iherir oasis with its small lake surrounded by reeds. In the afternoon, continue to Tikadeouene, where the camels and their guides are waiting for us. Overnight stay there.

 

Day 4: You continue your journey on camelback. On the following days, you can choose whether you want to ride the camel or hike with it. You can switch at any time. From now on, you will ride for five hours every day. On the way, near Tasset, you may encounter nomads from Kel Tobran. Visit rock paintings. Bivouac.

 

Day 5: From Oued de Tasset, you will head towards Tarazit, descend the gorge and bivouac at the bottom of the gorge.

Day 6: From Tarazit, you will hike through the Aharhar Canyon to the beautiful Tamaris bivouac. In the afternoon, you will hike for 3 hours through the dunes near the village of Afara.

 

Day 7: You will hike through the Aharhar Canyon to the village of Adjet, which you will visit. The houses are built of wood, stone and clay, and some are still inhabited. You leave the Aharhar Valley and cross the dunes and plains near Afara. Your overnight stop is Igheranne.

 

Day 8: From Igheranne, you cross the Afara Plain and walk past the foot of Gara Igheranne. We find ourselves in a large valley basin surrounded by beautiful rock faces. Bivouac near a nomad camp near Afara.

 

Day 9: From Afara, you cross the plateau and walk over dunes and a stony plateau to the bivouac in the Wadi of Tarazit.

 

Day 10: You leave the Oued of Tarazit, walk through a gorge and cross a rock labyrinth. Overnight stay in Emaharadjali.

 

Day 11: You ride to Tidarhjen and the Tasset region. Overnight stay between dunes and rock faces.

Day 12: Farewell to the camels and their guides. The off-road vehicles will take you to Erg Admer. Afternoon dune hike. Visit the famous engraving of the weeping cows of Terarart. Overnight stay nearby.

 

Day 13: After breakfast, drive to Wadi Essendilene and visit the guelta. Hike through the Essendilene Valley. After lunch, walk through Tikouboune and Tilalene Assasou. Overnight stay in In Maurodenne.

 

Day 14: Visit the oasis of Djanet. Hike through the gardens to the Jahil spring. Lunch in the gardens. Visit the El Mihane fortress and the centre of Djanet with its market hall. Visit the Sahara Museum if desired. Transfer to the airport in the evening.

 

Day 15: Very early morning flight to Algiers, connecting flight to your destination airport and return home.

 

€1,950 per participant (round trip only, from/to Djanet Airport). This price increases by 200% for a participant travelling alone and by 50% per participant for two participants. Minor changes to the programme are possible.

 

You are welcome to combine this two-week trip with another (also in a shortened form).
